The first step in installation is to remove the factory mass airflow/air box assembly.
1. Loosen the hose clamp at the back (engine) side of the mass airflow unit.
2. Remove the 4-wire mass airflow connector from the factory electronics module by squeezing the underside of the clip and pulling away from the housing.
3. Remove the harness from air temperature sensor. You will notice a wiring connector that plugs into a sensor on the lid of the air filter assembly. This is the air temperature sensor.
4. Remove the entire air meter/filter assembly from the vehicle. The bottom of the air filter box is attached by rubber grommets, which are fed through 2 holes in the body below the filter assembly. Once you have pulled up on the assembly, the rubber grommets will pop out of these holes, and you will be able to remove the entire assembly including the horn that pokes into the hole in the driver side fender.
5. Use the supplied tool to loosen the factory hot wire sensor assembly from the factory air meter housing. Onve loose, lift the sensor straight up and away from the factory plastic meter housing. You will notice that there is a rubber o-ring on the underside of the sensor mounting pads, and this is what seals the sensor to the housing.
6. Carefully transfer the stock sensor into the new assembly provided, making sure that the 0-ring seals properly, and that the sensor drops all the way in FLUSH before tightening the screws.
7. Remove the factory air temperature sensor, 90 degrees counter clockwise, to unlock it from the filter lid. (notice that our supplied filter assembly will have a hole already drilled in the neck of the filter for sensor relocation).
8. Press-fit the sensor through this hole until it is flush with the neck of the filter.
Now you are ready for final assembly.
9. Remove the mounting hardware from the end of the mounting bracket and reassemble the pieces on the vehicle in the same configuration, using the rear hole used to secure the factory assembly to the body of the truck.
10. Slip the air intake hose over the rear of the air meter assembly and tighten. Re-connect the air temperature and mass airflow sensor connectors, and you are finished.
If you are installing a chip at the same time, please CAREFULLY read the supplied instructions, as most people do not properly clean the contacts on the factory computer, which will cause the chip to not work properly. We hope that you enjoy this package, and if you have any questions please feel free to contact us during our regular business hours.
