What does a mass air meter do?

The mass air meter tells the ECU (computer) how much air is coming into the engine. It does this by attempting to hold a wire inside the mass air meter to a constant temperature. As air travels over the wire, it requires more voltage to maintain that temperature. The ECU then converts the voltage value into an airflow number.
