  • Why K&N

K&N air filters have a unique design featuring an oiled cotton fabric that holds airborne dirt particles. The dirt particles cling to the outside of the filter and actually become part of the filtering media. The cotton fabric is sandwiched between pleated aluminum screens. The dirt particles collected on the surface of a K&N element have very little effect on airflow because there are no small holes to clog. Particles are stopped by crisscrossed cotton fibers and held in suspension by the oil. As the filter begins to collect debris, an additional form of filter action begins to take place because air must first pass through the dirt particles trapped on the surface. That means the filtration efficiency of a K&N element actually increases as the filter collects dirt. Tests have shown a K&N E-1500 filter will flow 60 percent of its maximum flow capacity after 50,000 miles of street use. Because a new K&N air filter allows twice as much air to flow as a comparable paper element, the K&N filter will provide the equivalent airflow of a paper element even after 50,000 miles.
Conversely, dirt trapped by a paper element will impregnate the fibers, which will impede airflow at a proportional rate. In other words, performance decreases dramatically as a paper element gets dirty. At the service interval, say 14,000 miles, airflow through a paper element can decrease as much as 70 percent. The efficiency of K&N's oiled cotton gauze medium has been proven time and time again. Some trucks have logged over 100,000 miles with no loss in airflow as reported by the service technicians. Again this is due in part because a clean K&N filter will flow twice as much air as a comparable paper element. K&N will provide superior filtration, without sacrificing airflow, for a longer period of time. Now that's performance, which saves money!

    Air Intake Systems

Changing your stock air box with a free flowing intake system results in quicker response and better gas mileage. This also increases you RPM range so that means you may have a higher top speed! There are many different brands of intake systems on the market today. There are different elements (filters) as well. The most common one is K&N. There are also other brands that have their own element such as HKS and Trust. There are systems, which hook directly into your engine, replacing the stock hose or pipe. These tend to be a bit more costly than others that use the stock hose. The average power gain is 6-10 horsepower.

Some good brands of intake systems are: K&N, Iceman, RS Akimoto, DC Sports,HKS, Trust

    Aftermarket Bushings

A lot of the flex in your suspension is actually your vehicle manufactures way of giving you, the customer, a softer ride. In order to do this, they use large soft rubber bushings in every point where the suspension must pivot. This sounds like a good idea, but when it comes to making those tight high performance turns, the stock rubber flexing works against you. Replacing these rubber bushings with harder, more durable polyurethane, allows your suspension to pivot correctly. These polyurethane bushings eliminate unwanted flexing, which may cause your suspension to bind due to incorrect travel. Eliminating suspension bind and unwanted flex, unleashes the full potential of even a stock suspension setup. RPM Outlet also offers transmission mounts from Energy Suspension. Polyurethane transmission mounts are stronger than stock rubber mounts and still offer vibration-damping abilities. If you are continuously replacing factory motor or transmission mounts, energy suspension bushings and mounts will solve your problem. The cost of these bushings is usually on par or cheaper than the factory dealer replacements.

    Performance Springs

Springs can lower your car's center or gravity, which will reduce body roll in turns, dive under braking and squat during acceleration. Pro springs will give your car a more solid and secure feel at all times. Replacement springs also can remove the ugly two or three finder gap that makes the car look lifted. If you're into drag racing, we also offer drag launch kits, which help transfer weight to the rear wheels where it is needed. Installing a drag launch kit will dramatically reduce wheel spin even on the street. Note: RPM Outlet also offers heavy-duty springs for lifting a vehicle or for high load applications such as towing boats or motor homes.

    Performance Shocks

What's wrong with stock shocks? Conventional shocks have a fixed dampening rate and can only react to the relative motion between the chassis and the wheel. They cannot tell whether the wheel is going down or the chassis is going up.
Edelbrock has a better idea. They have a variable dampening rate. This enables the shock to apply a higher dampening force when it's needed for conditions such as potholes, railroad tracks or any other surface irregularities. The end result is that your car will handle like a sports car with a comfortable ride. Performer IAS shocks by Edelbrock will give you the best of both worlds.
We also offer drag-shocks from Lakewood, which aid in weight transfer. Both the 90/10's and the 70/30's from Lakewood will decrease wheel spin. 70/30 shocks are intended for the street driven vehicles where cornering abilities is a major concern. Currently, we have 90/10's on our street driven vehicle and only experience minor body roll at elevated cornering speeds.
Eibach offers shocks and struts for the other extreme, which during hair-raising turns, ensure that your car will remain flat and straight for the ultimate cornering experiences.

    Upper and Lower Control Arms

Many of the problems associated with wheel spin and hop under acceleration, as well as poor cornering ability, can be solved with aftermarket control arms. These are redesigned replacement components, with higher tensile strength, which eliminate unwanted flex. Aftermarket control arms have either polyurethane bushings (see polyurethane bushings) or heim joints. These are metal knuckles, which do not flex, but pivot. With superior construction and quality pivot points, these control arms allow true suspension response with the correct geometry.
Aftermarket control arms such as Lakewood lowers, will adjust pinion angle to increase suspension weight transfer for superior traction. Adjustable upper control arms are also available to fine tune suspension to a variety of conditions. Lengthening or shortening upper control arm length will allow you to change pinot angle and to set preload to your particular vehicle suspension characteristics. Upon purchase of any adjustable suspension component, we will suggest pinion angle and preload settings for you particular vehicles setup.

    Transmission Coolers

Automatic transmission coolers are one product that is a must for someone who wants the most out of their transmission. The coolers will protect your transmission from heat and keep your fluid temperature between 160 and 200 degrees so that your transmission will live a long and happy life. The number one killer of automatic transmissions is heat. Without a cooler, you could exceed the temperature range of your transmission fluid. This could cause your transmission fluid to degrade, reducing its ability to lubricate bearings, seals, clutches and other parts. These factors will eventually lead to costly repairs and vehicle down time.
All transmission cooler kits come with high temperature/pressure hose, mounting hardware, and easy to follow instructions.

    Automatic Transmission Shift Kits

The Shift Improver Kit is the least expensive and the simplest to transmission kit to install. The transmission pan is removed and the valve body is taken out. In most cases, the stock separator plate is replaced with the special B&M plate. In some kits, other minor modifications may also be made. The B&M Shift Improver Kit can be installed in one of two modes:
    Stage 1. RV/Heavy Duty:
Firm positive shifts without loss of driver comfort for improved performance in all street vehicles. Recommended for regular passenger vehicles, RV's, fleet, etc.
    Stage 2. Street/Strip:
Provides very positive shifts for high performance street use or for competitive events. This model is for the enthusiast who wants the hardest, quickest possible shift. The Transpak has all the features in the Shift Improver Kit, and it provides additional driver manual control. Most conventional automatic transmissions won't downshift into low gear above 15 mph, and automatically upshift at a predetermined speed, no matter what gear you are in. With Transpak you can downshift at any speed. You can also hold the transmission in first gear to up to any speed that you desire. Downshifting at any speed is an asset when towing a trailer or driving heavy loads down hill.
Stage 1. RV/Heavy Duty: Provides firmer but not harsh “shift feel”.
Improves transmission performance and life dramatically without loss of comfort. It also offers full manual operation when in "Drive".
    Stage 2. Hi-Performance Street:
This is essentially the same as RV/Heavy Duty mode, however it provides a real “neck snapping” instant shift. It also retains full automatic features and standard shift points with selector when in "Drive".
    Stage 3. Full Competition:
Features a full competition shift and higher shift points. Extremely hard shifts and higher shift points make this mode unsuitable for street use. This also maintains automatic shift feature.

    Torque Converters

Although we offer torque converters from B&M, TransKing and TCI, the converters that we use most often are manufactured by special order from Stalls, Inc. We have a very close working relationship with stalls, and we feel that they are the absolute best converters on the market. You cannot get a generic converter from stalls. To order a converter from stalls, we will need some information.
We will need your engine package (stock, cam, nitrous, heads, turbo, supercharger, etc.) tire diameter, gear ratios and desired stall level. We have run Stalls Inc. converters in the majority of our cars from near stock Grand National, to low 9-second turbo charged Mustangs. There is no guesswork involved with this converter. This converter will be made specifically for you and your car. Unlike the other high performance converters, which advertise stall levels of 2000, 2800 rpm etc., you will never really know what your engine will stall at until the converter is in place. This is not true with a converter from Stalls, Inc. Stalls will give you your desired stall level within 300 rpm. Because of our relationship with Stall's, we are able to offer you the customer, these quality converters within 24 to 48 hrs from time of deposit.
See Special Orders Call for more details.

    Exhaust Manifolds

Adding a performance header is the way to get the most power for you money. As much as 15-20 horsepower can be easily added to you car. While shopping for a header, you will be looking at different materials such as 12 awg. Stainless steel and 14-awg mild steel with a ceramic coating. The stainless steel will be more expensive. Adding a performance header will give you great mid and high-end torque.
There are a number of different header designs. For four cylinder vehicles, there are four into two into one. Then there is simply four into one. For eight cylinder cars, it is the same. There are two headers with the addition of the collector, which brings the two ends of the headers together. Most Japanese vehicles have the 4-2-1 design.

Some good brands are: DC Sports, Mac & Edelbrock,

    Exhaust Headers

Replacing your stock exhaust manifold with a header exhaust system will increase both torque and horsepower in any vehicle. An exhaust header allows exhaust scavenging which is pretty much non-existent in a stock exhaust manifold. Exhaust scavenging allows the cylinder to vent exhaust gases more efficiently. This phenomenon is the basic behind the increase in engine performance generated by a header. We offer the best headers available, at the lowest prices. The hardest decision will not be whether to buy an aftermarket header, but rather which header to buy.
Some vehicles have several different manifold styles available including shorty replacement, equal-length shorty or a longtube design. We recommend a longtube header design if a choice is available. Although a shorty style header is the easiest to install, a longtube header will provide the largest improvement. Primary tube diameter is also a concern when selecting a header. On most vehicles, a 1 5/8" diameter is the best choice. It is small enough to keep exhaust gas velocity high, which promotes exhaust scavenging, yet large enough to promote exhaust flow and lower back pressure. Some engines, such as large displacement tucks, may require 1 7/8" primary tubes. Smaller cars will benefit more from a smaller 1 1/2" primary tube. Contact us directly for our recommendation.

    Exhaust Systems

Replacement of your stock exhaust will increase your performance and simultaneously reduce your fuel costs. There are cat-back and non-cat-back systems. Cat-back means is that it includes the rear muffler and the B-pipe, which leads the muffler to the catalytic converter. Most systems come in cat-back. There are some systems in which you can get the two pieces separately such as Lightspeed. Also available are universal mufflers that need to be customized using pipe and weld. These systems are not as good as ones made specifically for your car. The average power gain is 6-15 horsepower.

Some good brands of exhausts systems are: Mac, Boral, Dynomax, and others.

    Muffers

We offer what we believe to be the two best exhaust products on the market. Flowmaster and MAC. Let’s begin with Flowmaster. How would you like 15 to 30 rear wheel horsepower without the noise? Flowmaster has done it and the way their muffler work is simple. They use 16 gauge mig welded aluminized steel, and a design which promotes more efficient charge of unburned fuel and air to fill the cylinder for the next cycle. They also have a patented noise cancellation system, where sound energy is split and directed through slightly different paths. This muffler is free flowing, yet quieter than open pipes sound. All Flowmaster mufflers are compatible with stock emission controls and catalytic converters.
Is Flowmaster a little to expensive for you??? In some cases I'd have to agree. MAC is an economical alternative to Flowmaster. They also come with a limited lifetime warranty. These mufflers offer a dyno-proven 11 horsepower increase over a restrictive stock muffler. MAC mufflers are fiberglass matted, so they are not as loud as a Flowmaster, but they still have a deep, throaty sound.

We also offer MAC Cat-Back exhaust systems. These kits offer a larger than stock, pipe diameter with unrestrictive mandrel bends. If you need to, or just want to replace your exhaust system, a MAC Cat-Back system from RPM Outlet, is both economical and easy to install with simple hand tools. Because the Cat-Back is a direct replacement, there is no welding involved. This eliminates the need to go to an expensive exhaust shop.

    Computer Chips

Diablo Sport Chips are, in our opinion, the best computer chip manufacturer. Diablo Sport Chips offers a stock replacement computer chip, which alters the timing and fuel curves of the engine. Both Diablo Sport Chips and PM Outlet recommend using 92-octane gas to get the maximum benefit. The bottom end performance is improved dramatically by changing timing and fuel curves. The cold starting, cool running and the slow running will remain the same as before the chip. Gas mileage will improve by 5 - 10% because of the increased efficiency of the engine. The top speed will increase by about 5 - 7 MPH. The 0 – 60mph time will improve by about 1.0 second. A replacement chip from Diablo Sport will also remove or replace any factory-preset limiters such as the RPM limit, which is increased, and the top speed limiter, which is removed.
This chip is absolutely the best chip available for your car. You may try it free for 30 days and it has a full lifetime warranty. If you are not happy with the chip, you may send it back for a full refund.

    Performance Thermostats

A Hypertech PowerStat low-temp thermostat, improves performance in two ways. First, it increases the mass flow rate of intake air and secondly, by reducing the engine's tendency to detonate.
From the laws of physics, cooler air is denser than warmer air. Because horsepower increases as the amount of air and fuel burned increases, cooler air (with more air molecules per cubic inch) creates more power. The PowerStat allows the engine to cool down to a lower temperature than the factory thermostat, allowing your engine to produce more power. During drag racing, water can be sprayed on the radiator between races to drop the temperature and improve performance. Using the PowerStat ensures that you leave the line at the same temperature during each run, giving consistent maximum performance for bracket racing.
Detonation, usually producing audible pinging or even knocking sounds, refers to the spontaneous explosion of the unburned air/fuel mixture in the combustion chamber. Detonation abruptly and violently ends the normal combustion process, reduces power, and can severely damage the engine. A PowerStat reduces the temperature of both the incoming air/fuel mixture, as well as the surfaces of the combustion chamber. This greatly reduces an engine’s tendency to detonate, and allows the engine to safely develop more horsepower. It also helps those vehicles driven daily, in normal situations such as the daily commute to work. Do you want to be one of those people stuck at the side of the road? We believe that the answer is “of course not”. The majority of overheating problems for today’s daily drivers originate from the stock factory thermostat or factory fans. Replacing your factory thermostat will greatly reduce your risk of overheating problems.

    Underdrive Pulleys

The underdrive crankshaft pulley kit completely replaces the factory pulley with a smaller diameter crank pulley and larger diameter accessory pulley. This means that a new serpentine belt is not required. This kit slows the drive speed of most accessories by approximately 25%. This reduces power loss by the reducing the drag caused from the accessories rotating inertia, allowing for an approximate 15hp increase. This pulley set offers more horsepower, without loss of drivability. In addition, it also prolongs the life of your accessories such as the water pump. There are a few myths about underdrive pulleys, which for the most part are completely false. To find out more, please read our facts section on underdrive pulleys.

    NGK Sparkplugs

At RPM Outlet, we have been running NGK plugs for over ten years. Over the years, we have tried the new plugs that have come on to the market such as, Splitfire, Rapidfire, Bosch platinum, Champion gold etc. In all cases, we have not observed any noticeable increases in 1/4 mile track times with any of these plugs. We have always came back to NGK because they seem to last the longest and they are not as expensive as their competitors. We use and offer to you NGK's V-power spark plugs. The V-POWER plug has been in use for 10 years. NGK's unique V-Power design directs the spark to the edge of the electrode, where it can develop a flame front rapidly. This allows easier and more complete combustion of the air/fuel mixture. NGK V-power features include:
A Solid copper-core - Where some other manufacturers use a copper coated center core, NGK's solid core transfers heat and spark energy better than any copper coating.
Longer Insulator Nose - This superior design helps to prevent fouling or "loading" up even after extensive idling, or at low engine rpm.
Biggest Tip In The Industry - NGK plugs have the biggest center electrode in the industry. This means a longer plug life.
We could go on and on about how the advantages of NGK plugs. We suggest you try a set today. If you’re not happy with an NGK Spark Plug, YOU will never find a spark plug that fits your needs. If you are still not convinced about NGK V-power, and would rather use another product, we do carry all of the other competitor brands.

    Plug Wires

The MSD 8.5mm Super Conductor Wire is "the" performance wire. Engineered from the inside out, the 8.5 offers everything you have ever wanted in a wire; incredibly low resistance without electronic interference! In a single 12-inch length of Super Conductor Wire, there is only 40 - 50 ohms of resistance! That is the lowest resistance of any helically wound wire. To accomplish this, we use a copper alloy conductor due to its great voltage carrying capabilities. This conductor is wound extremely tight around a special center core. So tight in fact, that there is over 40 feet of conductor wrapped into a single foot of plug wire. This winding procedure, combined with a ferro-magnetic impregnated center core, produces an extremely effective Electro Magnetic Interference (EMI) "choke".
This choke, or suppression capability, keeps the EMI inside the wire where it cannot interfere with other electronics on your vehicle. The EMI suppression capability of the 8.5mm wire is equal to a 1,500 ohm per foot wire and you can get 30 times more spark energy delivered to the plug! The outer sleeve that surrounds the conductor assembly is just as impressive. A proprietary blend of silicone and synthetic material produce a sleeve that is highly resistant to heat as well as abrasion and tears.

    Larger Fuel Pumps

Once your vehicle begins to produce more power under W.O.T., it's demand for fuel under these conditions also increases. If the demand for fuel exceeds the supply of fuel the engine will run lean. This creates a potentially damaging condition, as well as robbing power from your vehicle. By simply installing a 190 lph fuel pump, your vehicles fuel needs will be met up to the 400 hp mark. The typical factory fuel pump is generally capable of supplying 5 to 10% more fuel than is required for a stock engine. We suggest installing an aftermarket fuel pump as one of your initial upgrades, especially in EFI computer controlled vehicles where it is nearly impossible to supply too much fuel to your fuel rail. In an EFI vehicle, excess fuel is simply returned to the fuel tank via the fuel pressure regulator.

    Fuel Pressure Regulators

An adjustable fuel pressure regulator replaces your factory unit in minutes. The adjustable unit allows you to change the fuel pressure by simply turning a screw on the top of the regulator. This allows the user to fine tune the fuel pressure, to achieve maximum performance from the vehicle. An adjustable regulator is required with a fuel pump upgrade.

    Electric Fans

Electric fans increase fuel mileage and available horsepower buy eliminating the strain placed on your accessory belt. An electric fan will only cycle on and off when additional cooling air is required to maintain the temperature of your engine coolant. For example, when your car is standing still, idling in a parking lot, your vehicle may over heat because airflow with accessory belt driven fan is minimal at idle speeds. In this case, an electric fan will cycle on and off, cooling your vehicle as necessary. The opposite extreme would be, while traveling down a freeway at high speeds, additional air movement might not be required to cool your vehicle. In this case, a non-electric accessory power fan is simply robbing your vehicle of up to 5 hp, and decreasing your fuel mileage. Under these conditions, because additional air movement is not required, an electric fan may never cycle on. Basically, an accessory belt driven fan works very well when it's not needed, and poorly when additional cooling is required. In addition, removing the accessory fan mounted on your water pump will extend the life of your water pump, by removing the stress placed on the water pump bearings by a belt driven fan.

    Facts on NOS

Provides Truly Awesome Power for Factory and Aftermarket Engines. NOS Nitrous Systems are designed to be the perfect complement to a factory or aftermarket engine. An instant surge of power is provided right from a quick start and or for a mid-range RPM boost. NOS will actually eliminate "turbo lag" on turbo vehicles. In addition to adding 30-40% extra HP* and torque, the system acts as an additional intercooler, by reducing intake temperatures by as much as 60-75° Fahrenheit. These kits offer complete adjustability for various power levels with simple jet changes. NOS Turbo Nitrous Systems are easy to install. They include: a 10lb. capacity nitrous bottle, solenoids, nozzle(s), filters, fittings, jets, switches, aircraft quality steel braided hose, and all other necessary hardware for a complete installation. This product will add some serious power to your vehicle. When looking at dollars for horsepower, NOS systems are the easiest way to go. In an afternoon, you can easily add 75+ horsepower to your vehicle with the addition of this type of kit.
NOS EFI is a dry nitrous system, which relies on your stock or aftermarket injectors to supply additional fuel. This is done by the kit, which automatically increases the pressure on the fuel rail when nitrous is being injected. These kits can be adjusted from 75 to 150 hp. Other kits claim adjustability of between 50 and 175 hp. In actuality they are simply the same kit.
NOS Wet nitrous systems rely on supplemental fuel injection. These kits mix both fuel and nitrous together in the intake system, for significant power gains of 125 to 400+ HP. The fuel required for the fuel nitrous mixture is usually supplied by the factory fuel pump via a T-fitting in the fuel line. More aggressive wet nitrous kits may use a booster or separate fuel pump to ensure sufficient fuel supply. In either case, while an aftermarket fuel pump is recommended by RPM Outlet, in many entry-level systems, the factory fuel pump will suffice.
