What Changes Can I Make To My Vehicle?
Not only is this the most common question people ask, it is also the most difficult question to answer. The real question is; what do you want from your vehicle? To simplify the process of finding the answer to this question, we have categorized the possible changes and upgrades as follows:
Performance with Economy, Power Upgrades, Power adders, Exhaust Upgrades, and Components, Suspension, Drive Train Upgrades, and Accessories. Each upgrade category is explained in the section below. You can find additional information on these upgrades in the Facts on Aftermarket Products section of our website.
Basically, we recommend beginning with performance with economy upgrades because they are relatively inexpensive, and easy to install. In many cases, people upgrade their vehicles not because they want to, but because they have to due to normal wear and tear. These upgrades normally consist of
Exhaust or Drivetrainreplacements. These aftermarket upgrades are of superior construction, such as stainless steel exhaust systems. Stainless steel exhaust systems generally outlast the enthusiast's ownership of the vehicle.
Transmission and drive trainupgrades are usually performed because the stock factory pieces are not up to the tasks that the owner has intended for the vehicle. Activities such as racing or pulling heavy loads, normally don't agree with these components, leading to their premature failure. Installing aftermarket products will reduce, and in some cases eliminate, the need for any further repairs or maintenance. There is no need to continually repair parts, when you can simply purchase a stronger, more durable part.
Some enthusiasts are like us; they want more speed, increased horsepower, quicker acceleration and better handling. For these drivers, we offer power upgrades Here, we replace stock pieces such as camshafts, cylinder heads, intake manifolds, throttle bodies, electronic components, etc., with high performance aftermarket products. These products increase engine efficiency and airflow, producing considerable power gains.
When more power is produced, one often wants to upgrade the suspension and tractioncapabilities of the vehicle to realize full power potential. They may also simply want to raise or lower their vehicle for cosmetic reasons. Often handing and ride quality, are their main concerns. The suspension section will best address these needs.
Although a power adder is usually added after some power upgrades
are performed, it is not a necessary addition. Power adders
in a manner of speaking “trick” the engine into producing more power, by increasing intake air volumes (creating boost), such as in super chargers or turbo chargers.
This can also be accomplished with a supplemental oxygen supply such as in nitrous oxide. Nitrous oxide is a good example of a power adder which has a good performance to price ratio. For a few hundred dollars, we've safely added 120 Hp to Jason's 90 Mustang. On a stock 92 Ford Ranger truck, we've installed a 75 Hp nitrous kit, which greatly improved acceleration. For import vehicles, a 50 Hp kit will decrease quarter mile times by 2 seconds. With George's turbo engine, we were able to produce over 900 HP on a 5.0L engine. The Power Adder section is strictly for those people who are serious about horsepower requirements.
Often people simply want to make their car unique with carbon fiber shift knobs and trick tire wheel combinations or gauges these and others are all available in accessory sections.

Performance With Economy
RPM Outlet considers a "Performance with Economy upgrade", an automotive accessory which can be purchased, in most cases, for less than one hundred dollars. Installing these upgrades can easily be performed in an evening. Such upgrades promote vehicle quality, safety, longevity, and helps reduce routine maintenance. Most of these products show a noticeable increase in horsepower. Such upgrades include long life air filters, thermostats, computer chips, power pulleys, fuel pumps, spark plugs, spark plug wires and more. These are usually the first upgrades performed by the beginner to intermediate driving enthusiast.
Power Upgrades
RPM Outlet considers a "Power Upgrade", an automotive part or accessory, which increases the horsepower generated by the vehicles engine. This increase in horsepower is accomplished by increasing the efficiency of the engine or available power through aftermarket upgrades such as: electronic ignition components, electric fans, under drive pulley sets, upgrades to the exhaust system and/or induction components such as throttle bodies, cylinder heads, mass air meters and intake manifolds. Prices on such components vary from less than one hundred dollars to several hundred dollars.
Power Adders
The Power Adder section is not for the faint at heart. These automotive products will increase a vehicles available horsepower from 30 to 200%, by means of a super or turbo charger, or with the addition of nitrous oxide. Most vehicles without pre-existing super or turbo chargers can be easily upgraded to super or turbo charged vehicles. In most cases, super or turbo charged vehicles could be upgraded economically, with adjustable waste gate controls or smaller pulleys on superchargers. Nitrous kits are available for all vehicles, and have advantages in both price and installation simplicity. Prices on such upgrades range from $ 400+ for complete NOS Systems, $2000+ for complete supercharged kits. Complete, intercooled turbo kits can cost in excess of $3500.
Suspension
Suspension accessories are available to increase handling, improve traction, and improve ride quality. Kits are also available to increase or decrease ride height. We also carry a whole line of accessories such as engine and transmission mounts, as well as polyurethane bushings. Please visit our Facts on Suspension section.
Drive Train
Gear ratio changes will multiply the torque an engine applies to the tires of your vehicle. The benefit is two fold. First a numerically higher gear ratio will increase the pulling power of your vehicle. The second benefit is that it will increase the acceleration ability.Shift kits will produce more accurate shifts for performance or pulling advantages. Replacing manual stick shifter mechanisms with an aftermarket kit will make shifting more accurate, allowing the driver to shift quicker and more precise.Additionally, replacement transmissions offer higher horsepower, torque and racing applications. You may want to add replacement torque converters, which offer racing or pulling advantages. We also offer replacement clutches for increased holding ability and clutch life.
Synthetics Fluids
Synthetic fluids are available for any fluid, which you use in your vehicle. Synthetic fluids prolong the life of your vehicles engine, transmission and cooling system. Synthetic fluids will increase fuel economy, horsepower and acceleration while decreasing the possibility of your engine overheating. Synthetic fluids will also reduce the amount of wear on your internal engine components.
Exhausts Upgrades and Replacement
Exhaust modifications have a very good performance to price ratio. Aftermarket exhaust kits are made from “better than factory” materials with longer life expectancies. Exhaust kits increase available horsepower by increasing engine efficiency with smooth mandrel bends and lower exhaust flow restrictions. Exhaust components are available from headers to the tailpipes, including H and Y pipes, mufflers, and "Cat-Back systems". The exhaust kits include all of the components for a complete exhaust from the catalytic converter to tailpipes. RPM Outlet offers the finest quality exhaust components from Borla, Dynomax and Flowmaster. We also carry other brands for such instances where Dynomax and Flowmaster do not have products available for your particular application.
Accessories
These are a wide variety of items such as gauges, brush guards for trucks and fog lights. Visit our accessory section.
